On This Day In Herstory. On February 27, 1966, despite suffering from a severe case of laryngitis, Judy Garland taped an appearance on The Sammy Davis Jr Show. Vocally impaired or not, Garland gave it her all when in front of the audience. She sang When You're Smiling, The Man That Got Away, Give My Regards To Broadway, and a long "Hits" medley with Davis.
