What is the New Commandment in Christianity? During the Last Supper, Jesus washed the feet of his disciples. He told them to "do as I have done to you" (John 13:15). He set an example for them to wash the feet of one another as their servants. But during his conversation with them he went even further: not just "do unto others" but "love." He announces to them a New Commandment: "I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another.
