When installing furring strips I like to use these smaller 16 gauge nails. You only gotta hold the furring strips up until the trim goes on with screws anyway. Using a larger nail or screw can create an issue down the road when installing the actual trim as that could be the exact spot a nail or a screw may go and then you are stuck with screw to screw penetration and well we all know how that works out.
