Ford is recalling more than 254,000 SUVs in the U.S. after a software defect was found to impact rearview cameras and key driver-assistance safety systems.

The software issue could cause drivers to unexpectedly lose rearview camera image and other features like blind-spot monitoring.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the issue can reduce the driver's ability to detect hazards and increase the risk of a crash.
