Functional skills qualifications will remain available “for some students” as ministers introduce new stepping-stone English and maths qualifications for GCSE resit students.
Pupils will be able to undertake a new “V-level” qualification to gain vocational skills after finishing their GCSEs under government plans to simplify the education system for 16 to 19-year-olds.
