For the first time, avian flu has been found in California’s marine mammals, and wildlife officials are working to contain its spread.
Another flock of birds was euthanized Thursday in Dukes County, the only area in the state that has an outbreak of bird flu in domestic flocks so far this year. The Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources announced in a press release that it “safely depopulated and disposed of a non-commercial backyard flock in Dukes County”
The Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship said the cases were found in multi-species southeastern Iowa flocks.
Strains of highly pathogenic avian influenza virus have been present in Pennsylvania’s wild birds since early 2022.
